Chapter 15 - Dawn of the Unbroken Queen

One month later, the first heavy snow of winter fell silently over the Olympic Peninsula.

The Grand Ballroom of Croft Estate was illuminated by the warm glow of massive crystal chandeliers and roaring stone fireplaces. Five hundred guests—Alphas from Canada to California, corporate titans, pack elders, and diplomats—stood gathered along the perimeter of the vast, slate-tiled room.

At the center of the hall, an arch of woven white pine and winter roses framed the panoramic glass overlooking the raging Pacific waves below.

The heavy double doors swung open.

The orchestra fell silent, replaced by the deep, resonant rhythm of ancient ceremonial war drums.

I stepped onto the white runner, wearing a bridal gown of heavy silver silk that trailed four feet behind me, embroidered with the twin crests of Cascade and Croft in platinum thread. Across my shoulders rested a short mantle of pure white winter wolf fur, held in place by two black diamond pins.

I didn't walk with downcast eyes. I didn't walk as a sacrifice being delivered to an altar.

I walked with my chin high, my shoulders squared, every step steady, commanding, royal. Beside the arch stood Kane Croft, dressed in his ceremonial black-and-gold uniform, his broad chest decorated with the iron medals of his lineage.

He didn't look at the crowd. He didn't look at the high priest standing with the ceremonial silver bowl.

He looked only at me.

His eyes burned with that ancient, untamed golden fire—no longer clouded by madness or poison, but burning with a ferocious, unwavering devotion that belonged entirely to the woman walking toward him.

I reached the altar, placing my hand in his. His grip was warm, solid, anchoring me to the earth.

The elder priest stepped forward, holding the ceremonial obsidian blade. "Under the Old Laws and the New Pacts, two bloodlines join to seal the northern borders. Who stands before the King?"

"Harper of the Cascade Line," I spoke, my voice ringing clear and steady through the vast hall. "Sovereign Consort, protector of the valley, and equal to the throne."

"And who claims the Queen?" the priest asked.

Kane didn't wait for the script. He took the obsidian blade, nicked the palm of his right hand without flinching, and held it out before me.

"I do," Kane’s voice shook the very foundation of the estate, carrying the absolute, unyielding authority of a true Alpha Monarch. "With my blood, my wolf, my pack, and my life. Until the mountains turn to dust."

I took the blade, made a matching cut across my own palm, and pressed my hand against his.

Our blood mingled, hot and crimson.

A shockwave of pure, golden psychic resonance exploded through the room. It wasn't the suffocating pressure of a monster losing control; it was the blinding, magnificent dawn of a true mating bond snapping into place.

The silver silk at his wrist glowed; the platinum ring on my finger hummed with ancient magic. Every Alpha in the room, from the oldest warlords to the fiercest border commanders, instinctively bent their knees, bowing their heads before the twin monarchs of the Northwest.

Kane dropped the blade. He reached out, his large hands cupping the sides of my face, his thumbs wiping away the single tear of joy that escaped my eye.

"You saved me, Harper," he whispered, so quietly only my wolf could hear.

"We saved each other," I whispered back.

Kane leaned down and kissed me.

The ballroom erupted into a deafening roar of cheers and applause. The drums thundered, the glasses clinked, and outside the panoramic glass, the winter storm howled harmlessly against black steel that would never break again.

Seven women had entered Kane Croft’s room after midnight and fled into the dark.

The eighth had stayed.

And now, she ruled the empire.
