Chapter 6 - The Shattered Mirror

Grant’s hand shook so violently that the black ink splattered across the signature line before he even completed the first letter.

"Don't do it, Grant!" Sienna shrieked, lunging forward to grab his forearm. "If you sign away Caldwell Meridian, the luxury lease on the Tribeca duplex gets terminated tomorrow! The car loans are under the corporate entity—they'll repossess everything! We won't have a single dollar left!"

Grant violently shoved her hand away. The manic panic in his bloodshot eyes had turned entirely predatory.

"Shut your mouth!" he snarled, his voice raw and ragged. "You think I care about your designer wardrobe or a leased sports car? I am staring down a fifteen-year sentence in a federal penitentiary! You were the one who kept pushing me to flaunt the relationship before the ink was dry on the credit lines!"

"I pushed you?" Sienna gasped, stumbling backward against a mahogany display case. "You begged me to be seen with you! You said your wife was a lifeless ghost from an obsolete dynasty and that I was the only thing that made you feel powerful!"

"You're a leech!" Grant spat.

He didn't hesitate another second. He dragged the heavy gold fountain pen across the parchment, signing the equity transfer, the emergency corporate abdication, and the uncontested divorce decree in rapid, jagged strokes.

Grant Caldwell.

Marcus Vance immediately stepped forward, lifted the documents with gloved hands, examined every page under the library lamp, and stamped them with his notary seal.

"The transfers are executed," Marcus announced without emotion. "Caldwell Meridian is now legally restructured as Hayes Capital Partners. The physical surrender of all corporate credentials, security tokens, and electronic keys takes effect immediately."

Grant dropped the pen onto the blotter. He collapsed into the leather wingback chair, his head buried in his hands, trembling with dry, silent sobs. The hollow shell of the man who had stood beneath a canopy of white roses at the gala had completely dissolved.

Sienna stood frozen by the door, her face pale, realizing the horrifying truth of her new reality: the lavish lifestyle she had schemed to steal had evaporated in less than seventy-two hours.

"What about me?" Sienna whispered, looking at me with wide, terrified eyes. "Vivian... please. I was manipulated. I’ll testify against him in any civil suit. Just don’t freeze the secondary bank accounts."

I rose slowly from behind my grandmother's desk, smoothing down the lapel of my cashmere sweater.

"The secondary bank accounts were opened with Hayes Trust subsidiary credit cards," I said, my tone as cold and clear as winter frost. "By 8:00 AM tomorrow, every credit line in your name will be cancelled. The boutique jewelry you bought on company expense accounts will be reclaimed by our forensic audit team as corporate conversion assets. And the St. Regis suite has already been locked out."

Sienna took a sharp breath, clutching her throat. "You can't do that... I have nowhere to go tonight!"

"You can take the subway," I replied calmly. "Just like you did before Grant put you on my payroll."

Two estate security guards appeared silently at the library double doors. Marcus gestured toward the foyer.

"The taxi waiting outside has been paid for a single one-way trip to Grand Central Terminal," Marcus said. "Both of you will vacate the property immediately, or we will have local law enforcement remove you for criminal trespass."

Grant stood up on trembling legs. He looked at me one last time—searching for any trace of the obedient, quiet woman who had let him run her life for four years.

He found nothing but stone.

Without a word, Grant stumbled out of the room, his head hung low in utter humiliation. Sienna lingered for a split second, casting a venomous glare in my direction, before hurrying after him into the freezing rain outside.

I walked over to the tall French doors, watching the red taillights of the lone sedan disappear down the winding driveway through the storm.

Marcus walked up beside me, slipping his tablet into his leather folio. "The asset freeze on Grant's offshore shell accounts is locked tight. Arthur Sterling at First Harbor Bank has formally resigned, and the board of directors will ratify your complete takeover at sunrise."

"Good," I whispered, lifting my tea. "Now we start rebuilding what was ours."
