Chapter 15 - Living Well is the Best Revenge

The sun was setting over the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, amber, and gold.

I stood on the back patio of my home, holding a glass of crisp, chilled white wine, looking out over the perfectly manicured garden and the sparkling blue water of the swimming pool.

My phone rested on the patio table, completely silent. No emergency texts. No collection notices. No toxic demands from entitled in-laws.

Just peace. Absolute, unadulterated, hard-earned peace.

Down the road, somewhere in a dingy apartment or sitting behind the steering wheel of a broken-down sedan, Daniel Vance was learning the hardest lesson life has to offer: that pride is a luxury, entitlement is a trap, and a woman who builds her own castle will never need a king to keep the roof over her head.

I raised my glass toward the setting sun, smiling softly into the quiet evening air.

Life was beautiful. And the best chapter was only just beginning.
