Chapter 7 - The Shareholder Meeting Became a Trap

By nine the next morning, every seat was filled.

Victor sat near the front.

Confident.

Jang sat beside his attorney.

That surprised everyone except me.

Apparently suspension had freed her to stop pretending.

Shiaoza entered alone.

Whispers spread.

He sat at the opposite end of the table.

Not beside me.

I had asked him not to.

This was no longer husband and wife.

This was CEO and executive under investigation.

Chairman Chen opened the meeting.

Victor immediately stood.

“I move for the temporary removal of CEO Lin.”

Murmurs.

He continued.

“Evidence has emerged showing hidden corporate assets, illegal offshore transactions, executive misconduct, and a serious breakdown of internal governance.”

I let him speak.

For fourteen minutes.

He was excellent.

That was the dangerous thing about Victor.

He could turn poison into medicine simply by changing the label.

When he finished, several shareholders looked at me suspiciously.

Chairman Chen asked, “CEO Lin?”

I stood.

“My uncle is correct about one thing.”

Victor smiled.

“This company has suffered serious misconduct.”

His smile widened.

“And today, we’re going to identify who committed it.”

Daniel dimmed the lights.

The first screen showed the watch.

Purchase price.

Authorization.

Delivery address.

Jang shifted.

The second showed White Orchid.

The third showed 1.8 million dollars in unexplained payments.

The fourth showed the five-million-dollar transfer to Victor.

His attorney stood.

“We object to—”

“This isn’t court,” Chairman Chen said.

The attorney sat.

Then I played the video.

Jang’s face appeared.

Victor’s followed.

“Once she becomes CEO, we have a problem.”

The room went silent.

“Then make sure she doesn’t remain CEO.”

Jang asked:

“And Shiao?”

Victor answered:

“When this is finished, he takes the fall.”

The video ended.

Nobody moved.

Victor stood.

“Fabricated.”

Daniel spoke.

“Independent forensic authentication was completed this morning.”

Victor’s face changed.

I continued.

“There’s more.”

There was always more.

Emails showed Victor negotiating secret share purchases.

Messages showed Jang providing internal information.

Payment records showed kickbacks.

And finally, we displayed the document that destroyed his plan.

Victor had not actually secured enough shareholder votes.

He had forged proxy authorizations from three elderly investors.

Chairman Chen stood.

His face was furious.

“You forged my sister’s proxy?”

Victor said nothing.

“She has dementia.”

“I can explain.”

“You used a sick woman’s signature?”

Victor’s confidence finally broke.

Security entered.

Behind them were investigators from the financial crimes unit.

Jang stood abruptly.

“You said they wouldn’t involve police!”

Victor turned on her.

“Shut up.”

“You promised me!”

“Sit down!”

She grabbed his arm.

“You promised I’d get ten percent!”

Every phone in the room seemed to rise at once.

Shareholders stared.

Victor shoved her hand away.

And Jang, realizing she had been abandoned, did what desperate people often do.

She talked.

“He planned everything!”

Victor shouted.

“Shut your mouth!”

“He told me which accounts to use!”

“Jang!”

“He told me to get close to Shiao!”

The room exploded.

I froze.

Shiaoza looked at her.

“What?”

Jang’s face changed.

She had gone too far.

But now she couldn’t stop.

“Victor introduced me to you.”

Shiaoza stared.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“Five years ago?”

“Yes.”

He looked physically ill.

She laughed bitterly.

“You really thought meeting you at that charity gala was an accident?”

My husband said nothing.

“You were easy.”

Her voice turned cruel.

“Your wife was traveling. You were insecure. Victor told me exactly what to say.”

I felt no satisfaction watching Shiaoza break.

Only sadness.

Manipulation explained how it started.

It did not excuse two years of betrayal.

Jang pointed at me.

“She was always the target!”

Security moved toward her.

Then she screamed:

“Ask him about the divorce papers!”

I turned toward Shiaoza.

The room went silent again.

“What divorce papers?”

May you like

He closed his eyes.

And I knew there was still one secret left.
