Chapter 6: A Door Opens Again

Spring arrived with warm sunlight and unexpected visitors.

One Saturday morning, someone knocked on the front door.

Leonardo opened it.

Standing outside were two women and three frightened children.

One of the women introduced herself quietly.

"My name is Sofia."

"I stayed at the same shelter as Maribel years ago."

Maribel immediately recognized her.

"Sofia..."

The women embraced.

Sofia lowered her eyes.

"We heard what happened."

"We heard you finally received justice."

Maribel nodded.

"But why are you here?"

Sofia hesitated.

"Because many women are still living the life you escaped."

Leonardo invited everyone inside.

The children stared nervously at the food on the table.

Without asking permission, Renata disappeared into her bedroom.

She returned carrying her favorite coloring books.

"You can use these."

The youngest girl looked shocked.

"For me?"

Renata smiled.

"We can share."

That evening, Leonardo made a decision.

The apartment building he had purchased years earlier as an investment would no longer remain empty.

Instead...

It became the Cárdenas Family Hope Center.

Temporary housing.

Legal assistance.

Medical care.

Job training.

Counseling.

A place where abandoned mothers and children could begin again.

At the entrance hung a simple wooden plaque.

No child who enters this house will ever go hungry again.

Maribel stood beside Leonardo during the opening ceremony.

"You turned our pain into hope."

May you like

Leonardo gently squeezed her hand.

"You taught me how."
