Part 3: Unmasking the Deception

Three hours after the surgery, Hannah was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Utilizing my authority as a Harrison and my position as the chief surgeon on call, I had her moved into a private VIP suite under maximum security.

I sat by her bedside, holding her rough, calloused hand. These were no longer the soft hands of the poor, artistic scholarship student I once knew. What kind of life had she been forced to endure over the past five years?

The Terrifying Truth of the DNA Test

As I looked closely at the twins through the glass of the NICU, a strange intuition gripped me. They possessed my cleft chin, the high forehead characteristic of the Harrison lineage. Driven by a desperate hunch, I secretly collected hair samples from the babies and sent them directly to my private, internal laboratory. The results, returned two hours later, froze the blood in my veins.

  • Paternity Probability: 99.99%.

  • Conclusion: Ethan Harrison is the biological father of the twins.

This was a biological impossibility. We had broken up five years ago. Hannah was thirty-two weeks pregnant. How could she be bearing my children after five years of absolute separation?

Driven by a manic urgency, I broke into the secure archives of the Harrison Biotechnology Group—the corporation chaired by my mother, Eleanor Harrison. Using a high-level access code I had long renounced, I searched through the clinical trials of years past. And there, the mask of my family's treachery was completely ripped away.

Years ago, when Hannah and I were still happy, we had participated in a trial program to cryopreserve embryos at the university hospital (a subsidiary of my family's conglomerate) to secure our future after she underwent treatment for a uterine condition.

When my mother forced us apart using fabricated evidence, she had secretly ordered those embryos to be destroyed to ensure Hannah could never return to my life. But Hannah had discovered the plot. She had risked everything to steal her own embryos, fleeing into hiding from the terrifying reach of the Harrison family. She chose to live an invisible life, working grueling shifts in dilapidated warehouses in Cicero, hoarding every penny of her meager wages just to undergo the IVF procedure, carrying my flesh and blood in her womb without ever intending for me to find out.

She preferred to suffer, preferred to be discarded by the world, rather than allow them to destroy the last remaining piece of our love.

A Confession in Tears

I rushed back to the ICU just as Hannah's eyelashes began to flutter. When her eyes adjusted and locked onto me, they instantly filled with absolute terror and defensiveness. She tried to sit up, desperately covering her now-empty abdomen.

"My babies... Where are my babies?" her voice was hoarse, thick with panic.

"Hannah, please calm down. The babies are safe. They are in the NICU. A boy and a girl. They are incredibly resilient, just like you," I said softly, gently holding her shoulders as my voice trembled with emotion.

Hannah stared at me, tears of bitter resentment spilling down her cheeks. "Get away from me... Don't touch me. Five years ago you believed them, you called me a gold-digger, a liar. Why are you here now? You want to steal my children, don't you? I will never let your family touch them!"

I dropped to my knees beside her hospital bed, burying my face in her hand, sobbing uncontrollably like a child.

"I'm so sorry, Hannah... I know everything now. The texts, the bank accounts—it was all forged by my parents. I was so blind, so arrogant to let them deceive me. I found the embryo storage records. Why were you so foolish? Why did you bear all this agony alone for five years?"

Hannah froze, her body shaking violently as my words sank in. The bitterness accumulated over five long years breached its dam; she used what little strength she had left to strike my shoulders, weeping as she cursed my past blindness. I only sat there and took it silently, knowing I deserved far worse.
