Part 3: The Midnight Escape in the Storm

The distant wail of police sirens began to pierce the roaring storm outside the hospital windows. Esteban knew he had fallen into a flawless trap. If he stayed, he would be arrested for a murder he didn't commit. If he signed the papers, he would lose everything, and Yohandra's life still wouldn't be safe.

"You want to catch me? It won't be that easy," Esteban growled.

With a swift, decisive motion, he grabbed a heavy IV stand and smashed it against Hector’s head, knocking the old man unconscious. Esteban immediately rushed to the bed, ripped out the non-essential tubes, and helped Yohandra up. Despite her weakness, a mother's instinct gave her strength: "Our daughter... she’s still at the church!"

"I will save her. But first, I have to get you out of here!"

Esteban hoisted Yohandra onto his back and sprinted out the back door of the room, just as two shadowy figures dressed in medical scrubs—but holding silenced pistols—burst through the front door. His father's assassins. A breathtaking chase ensued down the dim, flickering corridors of the hospital.

They managed to break out into the rear parking lot amidst the thunder and lightning. Esteban placed Yohandra in the back of a running ambulance and jumped into the driver's seat. He slammed on the gas, crashing through the security barrier and vanishing into the pouring rain.

As they sped back to the church to find their six-year-old daughter, Yohandra weakly revealed the horrifying truth of what happened six years ago: "That year... your father found out I was pregnant. He forced me to get an abortion and leave. When I refused, he staged a car accident that almost killed me. I had to fake my death, change my name, and live in hiding. But three days ago, his men found us. I was poisoned... I knew I wouldn't make it, so I gave our daughter the picture and told her to find you on your wedding day... because I knew that would be the only time his guard would be down..."

"Don't speak anymore, you're going to live! We will be a family!" Esteban shouted over the storm, tears mixing with sweat on his face.

When the ambulance screeched to a halt in front of the church gates, what Esteban saw inside made his heart stop. The guests were gone, chairs were overturned, and the grand hall was freezing. In the center of the ruined aisle sat his jilted bride, her pristine white gown smeared with dirt.

And in her arms... was his little daughter, with a pitch-black gun pressed firmly against her head.
