Part 2: The Truth Unveiled

The words on the back of the crumpled paper pierced through Charles’s corporate armor like a dagger. A suffocating silence filled the room, broken only by Arthur's soft, hitching breaths. Charles felt the blood rush to his ears, a deafening roar of realization drowning out everything else.
He stared at the drawing, then at the frantic plea written in crayon. Please don’t let her send me away. Charles slowly turned his head to look up at Eleanor. The high-society woman, who usually possessed an answer for everything, had gone visibly pale. Her arms dropped to her sides, and her eyes darted nervously toward the exit. The mask of the caring, patient stepmother was slipping, revealing the predator underneath.
"Charles, don't look at me like that," Eleanor stammered, trying to regain her footing. "The boy is delusional. He has an overactive imagination. I’ve done nothing but try to integrate him into my life, and he rewards me with these malicious lies!"
Charles didn't answer her. Instead, he turned back to Arthur. He reached out and grabbed his son by the shoulders, pulling the boy fiercely into his chest.
"Arthur," Charles roared, his voice cracking with an overwhelming wave of guilt, anger, and protective fury. "Arthur! Did your mother—did Eleanor draw this? Did she tell you these things?!"
Arthur, terrified by his father's sudden outburst of raw emotion, could only nod against Charles's shoulder, his tiny hands gripping the blue fabric of his father's shirt. "She said... she said if I didn't behave, she was going to put me in a place where you'd never find me," Arthur whispered, his voice trembling. "She said you didn't love me anymore because I remind you of Mommy."
A terrifying transformation came over Charles Sterling. The corporate executive, known for his calculated negotiation tactics and calm exterior, vanished. In his place stood a father who had just realized he had allowed a monster into his home to torment his flesh and blood.
He stood up slowly, the crumpled rainbow drawing gripped tightly in his fist. He turned to face Eleanor, his eyes blazing with a dangerous, white-hot fury.
"Get out," Charles said. His voice wasn't loud, but it possessed a weight that made the vast room feel incredibly small.
"Charles, be reasonable! You're believing the ramblings of a traumatized child over your own wife?" Eleanor pleaded, taking a step back, her heels clicking frantically. "I love you! I built this life with you!"
"You didn't build anything; you infested it," Charles snarled, stepping toward her. "I watched you throw his heart into the trash. I listened to you call his love 'garbage.' And all this time, behind my back, you've been systematic destroying my son’s spirit. You threatened to abandon him? In my own house?"
"He's broken, Charles! He's never going to accept me!" Eleanor yelled, finally letting her true, ugly colors show. "He's a constant reminder of your past, and frankly, he's a nuisance!"
"The only nuisance in this house is you," Charles replied coldly. He pulled out his phone and speed-dialed his head of security. "Thomas? Come to the main house immediately. Bring two guards. Eleanor is leaving. She is not permitted to take anything other than the clothes on her back. If she resists, call the police and file a report for child psychological abuse. I have the evidence right here in my hand."
Eleanor gaped at him, her vanity shattered. "You wouldn't dare. The scandal—"

"Try me," Charles whispered.
Within minutes, the heavy oak doors of the manor opened, and security personnel escorted a furious, cursing Eleanor out of the house. As the front doors slammed shut, a heavy, peaceful quiet descended upon the home for the first time in years.
