PART 4: THE TRAP AND THE TRIUMPH OF JUSTICE

On the second night after her discovery, Naomi knew time had run out. Tomorrow, Oliver would hit the one-month milestone—the deadline in the will, and the perfect time for Thomas to execute his final move.

At 2:00 AM, Thomas returned. This time, he wasn't alone. He was accompanied by the crooked family pediatrician—the one who had flippantly diagnosed Oliver with "colic." From the shadows of the hallway, Naomi watched the two men plotting in the grand living room.

"Is everything ready?" Thomas's voice was devoid of humanity.

"Yes. By tonight, the rust and bacteria from the grid will have fully compromised the child's bloodstream, inducing acute sepsis. I will sign the death certificate as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). No one will question it. As for Eleanor, I’ve already planted the lethal dose of sedatives in her vanity drawer to make her 'suicide' look authentic," the doctor replied with a sickening grin.

Naomi knew she had to move. She rushed back to her room and scooped Oliver into her arms. The baby opened his clear, angelic eyes to look at her. "Come on, little one, we're getting out of here," she whispered.

But as Naomi rushed down the grand spiral staircase, the crystal chandelier suddenly flashed on, blinding her. Thomas Caldwell and his corrupt doctor stood at the base of the stairs, blocking the only exit. Behind them, Eleanor Caldwell appeared, stumbling like a ghost, heavily drugged by the sedatives Thomas had been slipping into her tea.

"Where do you think you're going with my son, Naomi?" Thomas sneered, stepping up the stairs with murderous intent. "Kidnapping? I knew you were trouble from the moment I hired you."

Eleanor panicked, lunging forward weakly. "Give me back my baby! You thief, what are you doing with Oliver?!"

Naomi backed up against the banister, holding the baby tight. She knew if she ran, Thomas's security guards would catch her, and she would disappear into the night. She needed to wake Eleanor up from her drugged haze.

"Mrs. Caldwell! Look at your son's back!" Naomi screamed, her voice echoing off the high ceilings. "Look at his wounds! Your baby isn't sick—he is being systematically murdered by your husband!"

With a decisive move, Naomi pulled back Oliver’s swaddle, exposing the horrific, infected red punctures weeping on the infant's pale skin. Eleanor froze. The primal instinct of a mother shattered through the fog of the drugs. She stared at the gruesome marks, then at Thomas, then at the doctor.

"What... what is that? Thomas, what is going on?!" Eleanor shrieked.

Thomas’s face paled, but he quickly masked it with rage. "Eleanor, don't listen to this crazy woman! She's a psychotic blackmailer who tortured our son to extort us! Doctor, call the police and security immediately!"

"I've already called them, Thomas!" Naomi shouted, raising her phone high. "And I didn't just call the local police. Ten minutes ago, I sent the photos of the bloody nail-bed, the $50 million insurance policy, and your father's will directly to the FBI and every major news network. If anything happens to me or this baby tonight, the whole world will see you for the monster you are!"

Thomas’s face drained of all color, turning a sickly gray. Beside him, the doctor’s knees buckled, and he collapsed to the floor. Knowing his empire was collapsing, Thomas dropped all pretense. He drew a concealed switchblade from his jacket and lunged up the stairs directly at Naomi to seize the phone and silence her.

"Die, you bitch!" he roared.

CRASH!

The massive front doors were blown off their hinges. Heavy tactical police officers poured into the mansion, their red laser sights instantly locking onto Thomas’s chest.

"Drop the weapon! Hands in the air!" a commanding voice boomed through a megaphone.

Thomas froze, the knife clattering onto the marble floor. He slowly raised his hands, his eyes burning with venomous hatred as he glared at Naomi. But justice would not grant him another chance. Officers slammed him and the doctor into the floor, violently pulling their arms back and snapping on heavy steel handcuffs.

A week later, the scandal had completely gripped the nation.

The ominous Caldwell estate stood quiet. Thomas Caldwell and his medical accomplice were facing life sentences without the possibility of parole for attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, and insurance fraud. Eleanor Caldwell, completely detoxed from the sedatives her husband had poisoned her with, had taken full control of the family fortune.

At the international airport in Louisville, Kentucky, Naomi Reed stepped off a private flight. A luxury limousine was waiting on the tarmac. Stepping out of the vehicle was Eleanor, holding a healthy, chubby, and smiling Oliver.

Eleanor walked up to Naomi, her eyes overflowing with profound gratitude. She took the maid's rough, hardworking hands into her own.

"Naomi, I will never be able to fully repay you for saving my life and my son's," Eleanor said softly, tears of joy in her eyes. She handed Naomi a thick, official packet. "This contains the receipts for your mother's specialized surgery and long-term care at the top hospital in America. It has been paid in full. And..."

Eleanor signaled her attorney, who presented Naomi with a legal deed.

"I want you to become Oliver’s official legal co-guardian, and the Trustee of the Caldwell Charitable Foundation with a full executive salary. Oliver needs a second mother who is as brave and righteous as you."

Naomi looked down at the baby in Eleanor's arms. Oliver blinked his bright eyes and let out a soft, joyful coo, reaching his tiny hands toward her. Naomi smiled, her heart finally at peace. She knew that since that terrifying night, both of their lives had been changed forever. Justice had prevailed, and for a brave heart like Naomi, light would always conquer the dark.
