Part 2: The Fall of an Empire

The handcuffs clicking around Victoria Sterling’s wrists sounded like a death knell. As the police marched her past the tables of her wealthy peers, smartphones were covertly raised. By midnight, the video of the "Ice Queen of Wall Street" being dragged out of Le Miroir for assaulting a teenager went viral on TikTok and X, racking up 50 million views.

The American public was furious. The internet demanded justice for Emma.

The next morning, Victoria sat in her high-rise office, downing her third espresso, her eyes bloodshot. She wasn't worried about the misdemeanor assault charge—her expensive lawyers could easily downgrade it to a fine and community service. What terrified her was Arthur Vance.

Suddenly, her office door burst open. Her Chief of Staff rushed in, pale as a ghost. "Victoria, we have a catastrophic problem."

"What is it? Did the PR firm clear the video?" Victoria snapped.

"No," the staffer stammered, holding up a tablet. "Three of our biggest institutional investors just pulled all their capital from our firm. Our stock is down 24% in pre-market trading. And... Vanguard Capital just launched a hostile takeover."

Victoria’s heart dropped. "Vanguard? That’s a multi-billion-dollar shadow fund! Who owns them?!"

The staffer swallowed hard. "We just traced the shell companies. The majority shareholder of Vanguard... is Arthur Vance."

Victoria fell back into her leather chair, her breath catching in her throat. Arthur hadn't just banned her from his restaurant; he was erasing her from the financial world.

Desperate, she grabbed her phone and called the only person who could save her: her billionaire fiancé, Marcus Thorne, a real estate mogul with immense political ties.

"Marcus, thank God," Victoria cried into the receiver. "You need to destroy Arthur Vance. He’s ruining my company over a stupid waitress!"

There was a long, chilling silence on the other end of the line.

When Marcus finally spoke, his voice was cold, completely stripped of affection. "Victoria, look out your window."

Victoria walked to the glass, looking down at the street. A black moving truck was parked outside Marcus’s penthouse across the avenue.

"What is that?" she whispered.

"That is my team packing your things," Marcus said flatly. "My board of directors just informed me that Arthur Vance controls the leases on all our commercial properties. If I stay associated with you, he will bankrupt my family by the end of the week. The wedding is off, Victoria. Do not call me again."

The line went dead. Victoria dropped the phone, the glass screen shattering against the floor. Within twelve hours, she had lost her status, her company, and the man she was going to marry. She was completely isolated, learning the hard way that when you strike someone vulnerable under Arthur Vance’s roof, you invite a storm that will tear your life apart.
