PART 2 — What I Saw Through the Door

The next evening, I decided I needed answers.

Not guesses.

Not assumptions.

Answers.

When Mark took Sophie upstairs for bath time, I waited until I heard water running.

Then I quietly walked down the hallway.

The bathroom door was slightly open.

Just enough.

I looked inside.

Mark was kneeling beside the bathtub.

In one hand was a kitchen timer.

In the other was a small paper cup.

Sophie sat in the water, staring at him nervously.

“Just a little longer,” he said.

“You can do it.”

My hands started shaking.

What exactly was she doing?

Why did he need a timer?

Why was everything so secret?

I pulled out my phone.

Without taking my eyes off the room, I dialed 911.

Within minutes, police cars were racing toward our house.

Mark had no idea.

May you like

And neither did I.

Because the truth waiting inside that bathroom was nothing like what I imagined.
