PART 3 — The Police Arrive

The officers entered the house while Mark was still upstairs.

One of them asked me what I had seen.

I could barely speak.

I told them about the secret games.

The long baths.

The crying.

The timer.

The strange stains.

Everything.

Two officers slowly walked upstairs.

I followed behind them.

My heart was pounding so hard I thought I might collapse.

The bathroom door opened.

Mark looked shocked.

“What's going on?”

The officers immediately separated him from Sophie.

One officer knelt beside my daughter.

“Sweetheart, are you okay?”

Sophie nodded.

Then she pointed toward the paper cup.

“That’s my medicine.”

The room fell silent.

“What medicine?” I asked.

Mark looked at me with complete confusion.

“The medicine Dr. Reynolds prescribed.”

I froze.

He opened a cabinet and pulled out several medical documents.

The officers began reading.

And suddenly their expressions changed.
