Mom asked to see Grandma.
Grandma said no.
Then she changed her mind.
We met Brenda at the county detention center.
She looked twenty years older.
No makeup.
No jewelry.
No performance.
“I’m sorry,” she said.
Grandma stared at her.
“For what part?”
Mom began crying.
“For all of it.”
She admitted she knew about the forged power of attorney.

Grandma asked one question.
“When you left me at that nursing home, were you coming back?”

“You will never control my money. You will never hold my medical authority. You will never enter my home without invitation.”
Mom sobbed.
Grandma continued.
“And you will tell the prosecutor everything.”
