Chapter 17 - Dad Came Back to the Gate

Two years later, Dad was released.
He came to the farm.
Same gate.
Different man.
No expensive suit.
No luxury car.
He arrived in a used Honda.
Grandma walked outside.
I stayed close.
Dad held no papers.
No demands.
Only flowers.
“I don't expect forgiveness.”
Grandma looked at him.
“I already forgave you.”
He began crying.
“I don't expect trust.”
“That,” she said, “you'll have to earn.”
She opened the gate.
Not the front door.
May you like
Just the gate.
It was enough for one day.
