Chapter 3 - The Web of Lies

"It’s a frame-up!" Victoria shrieked, her voice pitching up into a hysterical octave as she threw her hands in the air. Tears welled in her eyes, spilling over her cheeks with practiced cinematic precision. She rushed toward Julian, attempting to wrap her slender arms around his chest, but he stepped back as if she carried the plague.

"Julian, please! You have to believe me!" Victoria sobbed, burying her face in her hands. "That woman—Clara—she hates me! Ever since you asked me to move in, she’s treated me like an intruder. She must have stolen my bag while I was downstairs, slipped that vile bottle inside, and orchestrated this entire disgusting theater just to ruin us!"

Julian stared at her. For a terrifying fraction of a second, the billionaire wanted to believe her. He wanted to return to the comfortable, sanitized illusion that his life was perfect, that the beautiful woman he was scheduled to marry next month was as pure on the inside as she looked on the outside.

"Mr. Vance, don't let her play you," Clara intervened, stepping forward with her arms crossed tightly over her chest. "Ask her why she was standing outside the nursery door at two in the morning. Ask her why she insisted on feeding Leo his afternoon drops herself yesterday while the regular nurse was on break."

Victoria’s eyes flashed with sudden, venomous hatred toward the nanny. "You lying, conniving bitch! Julian, she’s fabricating everything! Fire her! Fire her right now and have security throw her out of the estate!"

"Enough!" Julian roared, the sound echoing off the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and rattling the medical equipment.

The room fell into an absolute, suffocating hush. Julian stood tall, holding the amber bottle in his palm as if it were a live grenade. His gaze locked onto Victoria, burning with a terrifying mix of betrayal and lethal curiosity.

"If you're innocent, Victoria, you won't mind letting security run a full biometric sweep of your private suite," Julian said coldly. "We’ll check your vanity, your computer search history, and every security camera log in this East Wing. If nothing turns up, I will personally fire Clara, write you a check for ten million dollars as an apology, and beg for your forgiveness."

Victoria’s face lost whatever color it had managed to recover. Her lips parted, but no words came out. Her eyes darted frantically toward the double doors of the penthouse, measuring the distance to freedom.

"I... I have a headache," Victoria stammered, her voice losing all its prior theatrical indignation. She took a slow step backward toward the exit. "Julian, this is insane. If you don't trust me after everything we've built, then maybe... maybe we need time apart."

"You're not going anywhere," Julian said, his eyes narrowing as he blocked the exit. He reached into his tailored suit jacket, pulled out his smartphone, and tapped the screen. "Guard station? Lock down the entire penthouse floor. Nobody enters, nobody leaves. And dispatch corporate security to Miss Victoria’s dressing room immediately."
