PART 2: The Unexpected Counterattack

The luxurious living room suddenly felt suffocatingly tense. Ethan stood there, his red suit looking utterly ridiculous against his furious, triumphant expression. Patricia crossed her arms, a look of pure disdain on her face as if she already held all the cards. They truly believed that threatening me with divorce and kicking me out with nothing would scare me into signing over the $150 million hotel.
But they were dead wrong.
I looked down at my phone, its screen glowing on the coffee table. The call with my grandmother, Eleanor Bennett, was still connected. Through the speakerphone, her soft yet commanding laughter echoed, shattering the tense atmosphere.
"What are you laughing at, you old hag?" Patricia snapped, marching toward me, her red-manicured finger pointing directly at my face. "That $150 million property is meant for real players, not a mere housewife who does nothing but wander around the kitchen!"
I looked straight into the eyes of the mother-in-law I had once tried so hard to respect, and slowly stood up straight. The submissive, enduring look that usually masked my face vanished, replaced by an icy, piercing calm.
"My grandmother predicted exactly what you would do," I said, my voice steady and deliberate. "And she just cut off all of your family's bank accounts."
Ethan burst into a mocking laugh. "Madison, have you lost your mind? What do our family accounts have to do with your grandmother? The Carter Group..."

The phones of both Ethan and Patricia rang simultaneously. A barrage of notification sounds caused the arrogant smile on Ethan’s face to freeze instantly.
Patricia trembling pulled out her phone. Her face instantly drained of color, turning deathly pale. The expensive pearl necklace around her neck seemed to choke the breath out of her as the text on her screen read: “Accounts frozen by order of the primary creditor – The Bennett Investment Fund.”
