Part 3: The Ghost Protocol

Evelyn’s screams faded down the corridor, but the absolute silence that followed didn’t bring peace—it brought the chilling realization that the nightmare had only just begun.

As Marcus stood up, still holding a trembling Liam in his arms, the main computer screen violently glitched. The blue override screen snapped to pitch black, replaced by a single, pulsing crimson icon: a stylized hourglass. A digitized, distorted voice boomed through the lab speakers, cold and completely unfamiliar.

"Congratulations on surviving the wife, Marcus. But she was only the distraction."

The elite security guards who had just arrested Evelyn suddenly stopped in their tracks. Instead of turning to secure the room, they stood perfectly rigid, their faces going completely blank. As if controlled by an invisible puppeteer, they slowly raised their weapons—not at the door, but directly at Marcus and Liam.

Marcus backed away, his heart hammering against his ribs. "Stand down! That’s an order!" he commanded, but the guards didn't blink.

The voice from the monitor laughed, a dry, robotic sound. "Their chips belong to the Legacy Protocol now, Marcus. Your father built this empire on secrets, and Liam is the ultimate key. Did you really think you were the only one tracking the true heir?"

The red countdown on the screen reset, ticking down from 30 seconds, but this time it wasn't a lockdown. The words HEART RATE SYNC ACTIVE flashed on the screen. Marcus looked down at Liam. A tiny, glowing red dot was pulsing just beneath the skin of the boy's collarbone—a tracking nanite injected during his captivity.

If Liam’s heart rate spiked too high from terror, the nanite would detonate. Marcus had to stay calm to keep his son alive, even as the barrels of five assault rifles pointed straight at them.

"You have ten seconds to drop the boy and walk away, Marcus," the voice threatened. "Save yourself, or die with the bastard heir." One of the brainwashed guards clicked his safety off, aiming squarely at Marcus’s chest. Liam clutched his father’s jacket, crying out in terror as the countdown hit 3... 2... 1...
