Chapter 7 - The Tables Turn Completely

With the stolen funds safely back in my account—plus the extra $10,000 penalty collected from Chad’s reserves—my financial anxiety evaporated overnight. My rent was paid, Maya’s tuition was secured for years to come, and I finally had the breathing room to look at my career and life with absolute clarity.

Word of the viral exposé reached my corporate office in Atlanta by Thursday morning. My CEO called me into his office, not to reprimand me for the media circus, but to shake my hand. It turned out our company’s cybersecurity division had been quietly monitoring the brilliant algorithmic tracking patterns used in the ‘CyberKid9’ report to trace transnational financial fraud. When my boss realized that the architectural genius behind the counter-hack was actually the nine-year-old daughter of one of their top data analysts, his jaw hit the floor.

“Kesha, your daughter is an absolute prodigy,” my boss said, sliding a consulting partnership brochure across his desk. “We’ve been trying to crack automated cross-border asset tracking algorithms for two years. If she’s doing this at nine years old, imagine what she could do with institutional backing. We’d love to offer her a future scholarship grant, and offer you a promotion to Senior Director of Data Architecture.”

I sat back in the leather chair, feeling a profound sense of vindication wash over me. The very system that had nearly destroyed my life had now opened doors I never knew existed, all because my daughter refused to let us become victims.

When I came home that evening, I sat down on the living room rug next to Maya and wrapped my arms around her. “You know, the CEO of my company wants to set up a college scholarship fund for you. Apparently, your coding skills caught the attention of some very important people.”

Maya smiled, resting her head against my shoulder. “I told you I had it, Mom. Bad guys never win when you know how to rewrite the code.”
