Chapter 11 - The $10,000 I Stopped Paying

I calculated it once.

Ten thousand dollars every month.

Almost five years.

Nearly six hundred thousand dollars.

Vacations.

Cars.

Clothes.

Margaret's lifestyle.

Money I had handed over willingly because Daniel told me family helped family.

For a while, I hated myself for it.

Then Rebecca corrected me.

“Generosity wasn't your mistake.”

“What was?”

“Giving people continued access after they showed you entitlement.”

That distinction changed everything.

I created a financial-abuse legal fund.

The first annual contribution?

Ten thousand dollars.

Exactly one month of Margaret's old allowance.

The symbolism was intentional.

That money paid for emergency legal representation for three women whose partners had hidden assets or forged documents.

One sent me a thank-you letter.

You helped me keep my house.

I cried reading it.

Margaret had once tried to steal mine.

Now her old allowance helped someone else keep theirs.

That felt better than revenge.

So I made the contribution annual.

Every year.

Ten thousand dollars.

May you like

Same amount.

New purpose.
