Chapter 4: The Price of Cruelty

Marcus didn't give the woman on the floor another glance. Total disgust had completely replaced any love he once felt for her.

He knelt down and gently lifted a trembling Chloe into his arms. He wiped the tears from his daughter's cheeks, his heart aching with profound regret. Because he had been so consumed by work, because he had blindly trusted the sweet words of a stepmother, he had allowed his daughter to suffer such humiliation under his own roof.
"I’m so sorry, Chloe. Daddy is so sorry," Marcus whispered into her ear, his voice choking up.
Holding Chloe tightly, he stood tall and turned to look at Lorena with eyes as cold as ice, treating her like absolute garbage.
"My lawyer will deliver the divorce papers tomorrow morning. You have exactly two hours to pack your clothes and get yourself and your three children out of my house. Anything bought with my money stays here—you won’t take so much as a single thread. If you are still here after two hours, I will have the police remove you for criminal trespassing, and I will sue you for fraud and embezzlement."
"Marcus, please... think of the children... they’ve called you Daddy for all these years..." Lorena crawled forward, desperately begging, trying to grab the hem of his trousers.
"Don't use that filthy mouth to say the word 'Daddy' to me. They are not my children, and you..." Marcus coldly kicked her hands away, "... are exactly what you said. A stranger."
He turned his back on her and walked away, leaving behind the sound of weeping, despair, and the wreckage of a fraudulent family.

That evening, in a warm, brightly lit restaurant downtown, Chloe sat before the largest, most delicious plate of roasted chicken she had ever seen. But more importantly, she no longer had to hide, and she no longer had to beg. She sat safely enveloped in her father's protective embrace—a father who swore that he would never let anyone make her feel like a "stranger" ever again.
As for Lorena, the woman who had looked down on a child and called her a stranger, she was now truly penniless. She stepped out into the streets with three children and a dark, ruined future—forced to pay the ultimate price for her own cruelty and deceit.
