PART 2: A FATHER'S FURY

Vanessa smirked, stepping closer and reaching out to touch Nathan’s heaving chest. "They’re just kids, Nathan. I’m teaching them how to manage their figures early so they don't embarrass the Caldwell name. Look at this dress, this party—everything I do is to keep up appearances for you!"

SLAP!

The resounding slap cut through the air, freezing the entire room. Vanessa crashed onto the marble floor, her diamond tiara slipping off and rolling next to the crushed lobster tails. She looked up in utter shock, clutching her burning, reddened cheek.

"Get out. Everyone, get the hell out of my house right now!" Nathan roared like a wounded lion.

Within two minutes, all thirty guests scrambled out into the Aspen blizzard, none daring to look back. The thousand-square-foot mansion dropped into a terrifying, dead silence.

Nathan didn't cast a single glance at his new wife. He turned on his heel and walked briskly toward his daughters' dark wing. When he pushed the door open, the four little girls were still sitting as still as statues, shivering in the dim light.

Nathan dropped to his knees, pulling all four of them into a tight embrace. Tears finally spilled from the eyes of one of Wall Street's most powerful men.

"I’m so sorry... Daddy's home now. From this day on, no one will ever hurt you again."

He took off his expensive wool coat, wrapping it tightly around the small, freezing bodies of Sophie and Grace. He carried two in his arms, while the other two clung tightly to his pant legs, taking their first steps out of that ice-cold room. As they passed the living room, Vanessa was crawling to her feet, weeping and screaming: "Nathan! You dare strike me? My father will pull every single dime from your South American project! You will regret this!"

Nathan paused, his gaze as cold as the blizzard outside. "Let’s see who regrets it first."
