Three months later.
At the trial, Vanessa appeared in a drab gray inmate uniform, her blonde hair tangled and dry, stripped of any resemblance to the glamorous socialite she once was. She wept hysterically, begging Nathan for mercy.
But Nathan’s lawyer brought forward the final, fatal piece of evidence: hidden nanny-cam footage from the kitchen. It showed Vanessa snatching a plate of fresh, warm food away from the girls, dumping it into the trash, and throwing the moldy bread at them, barking: "Your mother is dead. Now you’re just freeloading dogs in this house."
A collective gasp of horror ran through the courtroom. With irrefutable evidence against her, Vanessa was sentenced to 15 years in prison without bail. Her personal assets were seized to pay for the children's psychological rehabilitation.
As Nathan stepped out of the courthouse, the warm spring sunshine had finally replaced the bitter winter blizzard.
He looked down at his four little princesses. The cheeks of Emma, Lily, Sophie, and Grace were rosy once more. Dressed in vibrant, colorful sundresses, genuine smiles finally bloomed on their faces.
Nathan knelt down, opening his arms wide. The four girls rushed into his embrace, chirping happily, "Daddy, can we go get ice cream today?"
