Part 4: The Price to Pay

The next morning, a battered, rusty moving truck was parked outside the gates of the luxurious mansion.

Evelyn and Daniel walked out the front door holding a few tattered suitcases. No more silk clothes, no more arrogant elitist attitudes. They looked no different from refugees. Daniel desperately clung to the gate, looking at me with pathetic, begging eyes as I stepped down from a luxury limousine, flanked by two top-tier lawyers.

"Elena! I'm sorry! I was manipulated by my mother! I still love you, please don't divorce me, don't ruin my life!" Daniel rushed forward to grovel at my feet, but was instantly blocked by two bodyguards.

Evelyn lost all her dignity as well, sobbing hysterically. "Elena, I know I was wrong. I'm just an old woman who didn't know any better. You can't be so heartless as to leave an old mother out on the streets, can you?"

I looked down at them from above, lowering my sunglasses to expose the scabbed wound on my cheek—a permanent reminder of their cruelty.

"When you insulted me and called me a useless woman, did you ever think of this day?" I said coldly. "When you slapped me to protect her, did you think you would lose everything?"

I turned to sign the paperwork presented by my lawyer. "The divorce papers have been filed. As for the $5 million debt your company owes Vanguard, I will not waive it. Get ready to face the court and go to prison, Daniel."

With that, I turned my back and walked straight into the mansion. The massive wooden doors slowly closed on the two figures sobbing in absolute despair.

As of today, their game is over. And my real life is just beginning.
