Chapter 2: Naked in the Rain

The downfall of Catherine Sterling was swift, merciless, and broadcast across every social media
network in the country. Within hours of Clara’s phone call, federal marshals and corporate auditors
swarmed the Sterling mansion.
Catherine stood on the grand marble front steps, clutching a single designer handbag. Rain poured
mercilessly from the dark night sky, soaking her blonde hair and ruining her expensive burgundy
robe.
"You can't do this to me! Do you know who I am?!" Catherine shrieked at the security guards blocking
the entrance.
"We know exactly who you are, Miss Sterling," the lead guard replied cold-heartedly. "You are an
intruder on private property. Hand over the bag."
"My bag?! This is custom Hermès!"
The guard didn't hesitate; he seized the bag, opening it to inspect the contents before tossing her
personal lipsticks onto the wet driveway. "Purchased with corporate funds under audit. Move along
before we arrest you for trespassing."
Driveway gates opened, and Clara’s matte-black armored Maybach pulled up. The rear window rolled
down slowly, revealing Clara sitting inside, dressed in an immaculate white tailored suit. Her cheek
was cleanly bandaged, and little Lily was fast asleep in a plush cashmere blanket beside her.
Catherine rushed to the vehicle, slapping her muddy palms against the glass. "Clara! What magic trick
did you perform?! Who are you?! My father built this company!"
Clara looked at her through the tinted glass with absolute composure. "Your father didn't build
Vantage Group, Catherine. My late mother did. Your father was merely the puppet manager she hired
before she passed away. For ten years, you treated me like a charity case because I chose to raise my
daughter quietly. You thought my silence was weakness."
"Please! Clara! I have nowhere to go! My cards are declined!" Catherine begged, her arrogance
dissolving into desperate, pathetic sobs.
"You told my daughter to know her place," Clara said, her voice cutting through the sound of falling
rain like a razor. "Now go find yours."
The window rolled up. The Maybach accelerated smoothly, leaving Catherine standing barefoot in the
cold mud, surrounded by flashing news cameras and laughing paparazzi who had gathered to film the
