Chapter 10 - The Fall of the Dynasty

The cold metallic sound of hand-cuffs clicking echoing through the boardroom was louder than a gunshot.

Two officers pulled Caleb’s hands behind his back, snapping the cold steel around his wrists. Caleb flinched violently, tears and sweat blurring his vision as he looked around the room. The board members—men and women who had laughed with him at charity galas just weeks ago—now turned their backs, refusing to make eye contact with a man heading straight to a holding cell.

"Nora! Tell them it's a mistake!" Caleb shrieked as an officer forced him to step forward. "I'm Emma’s father! You can't put her father in prison! Think about our daughter!"

Nora didn't move an inch. She stood tall beside Eleanor Vance, her arms crossed, her posture regal and unyielding.

"I am thinking about Emma," Nora replied, her voice smooth and chillingly steady. "Which is why I am ensuring her father’s toxic influence never touches her life."

Beside Caleb, Harrison Vale was lifted forcibly out of his executive chair by a burly detective. Harrison’s expensive tie was crooked, his hair disheveled, and his eyes wide with a mixture of disbelief and blind fury.

"You think you’ve won, Nora?!" Harrison spat, struggling against the officer's grip. "My attorneys will have us out on bail before lunch! I have connections in the governor's office! I will tie you up in court for the next ten years until you don't have a single dollar left!"

Eleanor Vance chuckled softly, stepping into Harrison’s line of sight with a thick tablet in her hand.

"Harrison, please save your breath for your arraignment," Eleanor said with a ruthless smile. "At 9:10 AM, the District Attorney frozen every bank account tied to Vale Meridian, including your personal offshore accounts in Grand Cayman. Your credit cards are declined. Your retainer funds for high-priced defense lawyers are frozen under the Anti-Money Laundering Act."

Harrison’s face went completely pale, his jaw slackening. "What... what did you say?"

"You don't have attorney funds, Harrison," Julian Vance added coldly, holding open the boardroom door for the officers. "You’ll be using a public defender today."

The NYPD officers dragged Harrison and Caleb out of the boardroom. Caleb’s desperate cries for Nora resonated down the long marble hallway until the elevator doors slammed shut, cutting off his voice forever.

Silence descended upon the 40th floor once more.

The remaining board members stood frozen, terrified that Nora’s wrath might extend to them. Arthur Pendelton took a timid step forward, clearing his throat nervously.

"Ms. Vance..." Pendelton began, his hands trembling slightly. "The stock is currently down seventy-two percent. Vale Meridian is facing complete bankruptcy before the closing bell today. Is there... is there any path forward for the company?"

Nora looked around the massive, opulent boardroom that Harrison had used as his personal kingdom for decades.

"Vale Meridian is dead," Nora stated simply. "By 4:00 PM today, Vance Global Trust will execute a compulsory buyout of all remaining public shares at pennies on the dollar. The company will be delisted, restructured, and absorbed into Aegis Innovation Labs."

She looked straight at Arthur Pendelton.

"Any board member who cooperates fully with the District Attorney's financial fraud investigation into Harrison Vale will be offered a fair severance package. Anyone who attempts to shield Harrison... will be named as a co-conspirator by my legal team."

Within three seconds, every board member was nodding frantically, eager to sell out Harrison to save themselves.

Nora turned on her heel and walked toward the private executive elevator. Julian and Eleanor followed closely behind.

"Where to now, Madam Director?" Julian asked as the gold elevator doors slid open.

Nora adjusted the lapel of her tailored blazer. "We have one more stop before I go home to my daughter. Vivienne is waiting at the mansion, preparing a victory party."

A cold, lethal smile touched Nora’s lips.

"It would be rude not to attend."
