Chapter 15 - Crowned in Sunlight

Spring arrived in the coastal hills of Rhode Island.

The private terrace of the Vance seaside manor overlooked endless blue water. Gentle ocean breezes carried the scent of blooming hydrangeas and salt air.

Lily, now nearly a year old, took three wobbly steps across the soft emerald lawn, giggling as she reached for a wooden toy horse. Her cheeks were rosy, her bright blue eyes filled with innocence and untainted joy.

My father knelt on the grass, catching her with a warm laugh and lifting her high onto his shoulders.

"Look at her, Clara," Marcus said, turning back toward me with a wide, genuine smile. "She has your fire. She'll run the board of directors before she's twenty."

"Let her just be a baby first, Papa," I laughed, leaning against the stone balustrade with a cup of warm tea in my hands.

Behind us, Victor stepped onto the terrace with a brief, discreet nod.

"Good morning, Ms. Vance," Victor said. "The quarterly earnings for the Atlantic line just came in. We are up twenty-two percent. The new pediatric hospital in Manhattan officially opened its doors this morning. Every bed is funded."

"Thank you, Victor," I replied. "Take the afternoon off. Spend it with your family."

Victor smiled, bowed, and stepped back into the villa.

I looked out at the ocean, feeling the warm sun against my face.

A year ago, I was curled on a cold marble floor, begging a coward not to throw my newborn into the street while an arrogant woman sneered down at me. I had thought my life was over. I had thought darkness had won.

Now, the people who tried to break me were rotting in prison cells, stripped of their names, their wealth, and their pride.

And here, on the edge of the open sea, my daughter and I were surrounded by an unshakeable fortress of love, strength, and legacy.

I smiled, took a deep breath of the ocean wind, and walked across the grass to join my family in the sunlight.
