Chapter 9 - The Freezing of Accounts

Before Julian's finger could even tighten around the trigger, a sharp, deafening crack echoed through the hall.
A Vance sniper positioned on the mezzanine fired. The round hit Julian’s right shoulder with surgical precision.
The gun flew from his grip, clattering across the marble floor. Julian collapsed onto his back with a ragged scream, clutching his bleeding shoulder as two Vance security guards pinned his limbs to the floor with heavy combat boots.
Detective Miller kicked the revolver away and dropped his knee into Julian’s spine, ratcheting the cold steel handcuffs around his wrists.
"Julian Sterling, you are under arrest for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and felony embezzlement," Detective Miller stated calmly.
Julian sobbed into the floorboards, blood staining his designer shirt. "Clara... please... call off your father... my mother will die if she hears this..."
"Your mother is already waiting for you at Central Booking, Julian," Victor remarked, looking down at his screen. "At seven this evening, the United States Marshals evicted Evelyn Sterling from the penthouse. When she attempted to assault the executing officer with a crystal vase, she was subdued and taken into custody."

Victor displayed a live photograph on the screen: Evelyn Sterling, clad in a police-issue paper jumpsuit, sitting on a stainless-steel bench in a holding cell, her makeup ruined, looking like a shattered phantom.
"Every bank account associated with the Sterling name has been frozen under federal forfeiture laws," Victor concluded. "The Sterling dynasty ceases to exist as of midnight."
