Chapter 4 - The Viral Avalanche

By the time Noah and I cleared customs and stepped into the bustling arrival hall at Heathrow, my sister Caroline was waiting for us. She took one look at my pale, exhausted face, threw her arms around me, and pulled Noah into a tight hug.
“You made it,” Caroline whispered into my hair. “You’re safe now, Sarah.”
“I need to see the video, Caroline,” I said as we walked rapidly toward the airport parking garage. “Mark told me about it, but I need to know what’s happening.”
Caroline didn't say a word until we were sitting inside her SUV. She pulled out her iPad, opened a video app, and handed it to me.
The screen showed a high-definition recording taken from inside the Rhode Island chapel. There was my baby girl, six years old, standing in her pink dress in front of two hundred wealthy strangers. I watched her pull the crumpled drawing out of her dress pocket. I heard her small, brave voice ring out across the sanctuary: “My daddy told me to lie...”
I covered my mouth with both hands, tears pouring down my face. She had been so scared, yet she had stood up to the man who had controlled our lives for nearly a decade. She had fought for me when I wasn't there to fight for her.
Below the video, the numbers were staggering: 24.5 Million Views. 3.2 Million Likes. 180,000 Comments.
The top comments were a battleground of rage against Grant Holloway:
@NewportNews: "Grant Holloway is the CEO of Holloway Logistics. His board of directors needs to see this IMMEDIATELY."
@LegalTikTok: "This is textbook psychological abuse and witness tampering regarding a custody battle. The father just threw away his parental rights on live tape."
@JusticeForSarah: "Where is the mother? Is she safe? Someone find this sweet little girl's mom!"
“It’s trending on X, Instagram, and Facebook,” Caroline said quietly, navigating the morning London traffic. “Grant’s PR team tried to issue a takedown notice, but it spread too fast. People mirrored the video thousands of times. By midnight last night, #JusticeForLily and #ExposeGrantHolloway were the top two trending topics in North America.”
“What about Grant?” I asked, my heart pounding. “What is he doing?”
“He’s losing his mind,” Caroline replied grimly. “Mark took Lily straight to his house in Boston and refused to give her back to Grant, citing child endangerment based on the video evidence. Grant showed up at Mark’s house with his security team at 2:00 AM, screaming on the front lawn. The Boston police were called. Grant was issued a temporary trespass warning.”
My phone buzzed in my hand. A text message from an unknown number appeared on the screen.
Unknown: You think you’ve won, Sarah? You set me up. You had Mark put her up to this. If you don't bring Noah back to the US by tomorrow night and issue a public statement clearing my name, I will spend every single cent I own to make sure you rot in a federal prison for international parental abduction.
I stared at the screen, my blood running cold. Even now, with his reputation burning around him, Grant Holloway couldn't stop threatening me. He still believed his money made him invincible.
Noah reached over from the backseat, gently touching my arm. “Mom? Is Dad mad?”
May you like
I locked my phone screen, turned around, and looked at my son with a calm, steady resolve I hadn't felt in years.
“He can be as mad as he wants, Noah,” I said softly. “Because he can’t hurt us anymore.”
