Chapter 9 - Unlocking the Vault

Twenty minutes later, inside Maya’s secure apartment in Brooklyn, the black thumb drive was plugged into an isolated, offline laptop.

My hands were still trembling so hard I could barely hold my mug of tea. My knees were bruised, my coat was torn, but inside that tiny black piece of plastic lay the truth.

Maya’s fingers flew across her keyboard, bypassing the drive’s primary encryption protocols using a custom decryption script.

“This isn't just personal stuff, Sarah,” Maya said, her eyes fixed on the lines of code scrolling across her screen. “This is a master ledger. Look at these directory titles.”

She clicked on a folder labeled PROJECT PHOENIX.

Inside were hundreds of scanned documents, wire transfer receipts, bank statements from off-shore accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands, and private email threads spanning five years.

“Oh my God,” Maya whispered, pulling up a spread sheet. “Sarah... Grant hasn't just been hiding money from you during the divorce. He’s been skimming millions of dollars from his own logistics company through shell corporations registered under Vanessa’s maiden name.”

I leaned in closer to the screen. The numbers were staggering. Over twelve million dollars had been siphoned out of Holloway Logistics over three years.

Even worse was the folder labeled LEGAL STRATEGY - SARAH.

I opened it. Inside were detailed email exchanges between Grant and a private investigation firm he had hired two years ago—long before he ever brought up the word divorce.

He had hired operatives to track my daily movements, hack my personal email, and orchestrate situations to make me appear mentally unstable. There were draft emails where Grant instructed his investigators to find ways to trigger panic attacks in public spaces so he could record them for future custody hearings.

He had spent two years systematically building a trap to strip me of my children and leave me with nothing.

Tears of pure rage filled my eyes. “He didn't just fall in love with Vanessa and want a divorce. He planned to destroy my life so I would never be able to fight back.”

“This isn't just evidence for a family court judge, Sarah,” Maya said, turning her laptop screen toward me. “This is grand larceny, wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, and criminal conspiracy. Grant Holloway isn't just going to lose custody of Lily and Noah. He’s going to federal prison.”

My phone rang on the desk. It was Attorney Vance.

“Sarah, where are you?” Vance asked urgently. “Grant’s legal team just filed an emergency criminal complaint with the NYPD, claiming you broke into his apartment and stole private commercial property. The police are looking for you!”

“Let them look,” I said, my voice completely devoid of fear, replaced by a cold, unwavering calm. “Because in twelve hours, I’m walking into the United States District Court with the evidence that’s going to put Grant Holloway behind bars forever.”
