Chapter 10 - A Life Rebuilt

Two years later.
The ocean breeze carried the sweet smell of salt and summer jasmine across the lawn of our new coastal home.
It was a beautiful, two-story modern house built on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific—a home I had designed myself, paid for with my own hard-earned money, and filled with light, laughter, and security.
In the backyard, ten-year-old Noah was running across the grass, kicking a soccer ball toward a net.
"Mom! Look at this strike!" Noah shouted, kicking the ball straight into the top corner of the net.
I stood on the wooden porch, holding a glass of iced lemonade, laughing as I clapped for him. "Future World Cup champion!" I called back.
Noah had grown so much over the past two years. The anxious, quiet boy who used to tiptoe around his father’s unpredictable temper was gone. In his place was a confident, happy kid who felt safe, loved, and cherished every single day.
My phone rang softly from the patio table.
I picked it up. It was an email notification from my wealth management team:
SUBJECT: Annual Portfolio Review — Hayes Enterprise Trust
BODY: Ms. Hayes, your asset portfolio has exceeded growth expectations by 18%. Noah’s education trust is fully secured through university and postgraduate studies. The community housing development in your father's name opens next week.
I smiled, saving the notification.
I looked at my watch. It was 4:00 PM.
Three years ago, at this exact hour on a tuesday afternoon, Daniel had walked into Bellamy Jewelers to buy a three-carat diamond for his mistress while I packed our life into cardboard boxes. He had thought he was leaving behind a broken woman with no money, no career, and nowhere to go.
He had forgotten that a woman who knows her worth cannot be destroyed by a man who doesn't.
Noah ran up the porch steps, panting and laughing, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"Mom, can we make homemade pizza tonight?" he asked, looking up at me with bright, hopeful eyes.
I put my arm around his shoulders, pulling him close and kissing the top of his head.
May you like
"We can make whatever you want, sweetheart," I said softly, looking out at the endless golden horizon where the ocean met the sky. "The whole world is ours."
