Chapter 11 - The Fall of the House of Cards
The dominoes fell with terrifying speed.
With Candice, Evelyn, and Rita held without bail in county custody due to high flight risk, state investigators executed search warrants on all three of their residences.
In the basement of Evelyn’s home, forensic accountants uncovered a hidden safe containing over $800,000 in unrecorded cash, bonds, and jewelry stolen from at least four different widowers across three states over the past decade.
In the juvenile detention wing, fourteen-year-old Wyatt was brought in for questioning accompanied by a court-appointed public defender. Stripped of his mother's protection and facing severe juvenile delinquency charges, the bully completely broke down.
Under interrogation, Wyatt confessed everything: how his mother and aunt had instructed him to harass Lucas, how they forced Lucas to clean the house while they went on vacations, and how Candice had explicitly told him that "Lucas didn't matter because his father would be dead soon anyway."
The video transcript of Wyatt's confession became the nail in the coffin for the defense team.
Meanwhile, Gabriel sat in Sarah Jenkins’s office, looking over the finalized asset recovery documents.
"Every cent she stole from your business account has been traced and frozen," Sarah reported, pushing a document across the table. "Additionally, the court has placed a lien on Evelyn's properties. You will receive full restitution for the damage to your home, legal fees, and a substantial settlement for Lucas's medical expenses."
"What about the criminal trial?" Gabriel asked.
"The District Attorney is offering no plea deals," Sarah stated firmly. "The evidence is overwhelming. They're going to make an example out of Candice Lawson."

"He’s seeing a child psychologist twice a week," Sarah smiled softly. "Dr. Evans says he’s making remarkable progress. The physical bruises are gone, Gabriel. Now we just have to give him time to heal the rest."
