Chapter 8

As the night went on, people came up to me one by one.

They apologized for judging me so quickly.

They thanked me for showing them what grace really looks like.

I spoke to business owners and community leaders.

I told them about my mother’s illness.

About the families who struggled to pay for medicine.

By the end of the night, people had pledged thousands of dollars.

For medical care. For schools. For families like mine.

Vanessa stood beside me, beaming.

“I always thought being powerful meant getting what you want,” she said.

“But it means helping others get what they need.”

Margaret wiped tears from her eyes.

“I am so proud of both of you.”

Later, when most guests had left, we sat together in the quiet foyer.

The same place where everything had fallen apart.

Now it felt like a place of new beginnings.

“I used to hate this room,” I admitted.

“Now it feels like home.”

May you like

Vanessa squeezed my hand.

“It is home. For all of us.”
