Chapter 7 - The Gathering Storm in the Shadows
While the media celebrated the downfall of the Vance family as a miraculous victory for corporate transparency, a darker, more dangerous faction was watching from the high-security subterranean offices of the International Syndicate in Geneva.
In a dimly lit room lined with computer monitors displaying real-time financial fluctuations, a man known only as The Director stood smoking an expensive Cuban cigar. On the central screen froze a high-resolution security photo of Arthur Sterling walking out of the Vance Tower.
“Well, well, well,” The Director murmured, a cold, thin smile forming on his lips. “Twenty years in hiding, playing the simple baker in a quiet suburb. We thought Arthur had lost his edge. We thought The Phantom was dead.”
A shadowy figure stepped out from the corner of the room. It was Viktor, a ruthless high-tier operative who had spent a decade hunting down former rogue syndicate brokers.
“Sir, should we dispatch a clean-up crew to eliminate him?” Viktor asked, his hand resting on the holster of his suppressed pistol. “If Arthur starts digging deeper into our offshore network, he could expose our entire European logistics channel.”
The Director raised a hand, stopping him.
“No, Viktor. Killing him is too easy, and it leaves too many loose ends,” The Director said, his eyes narrowing maliciously. “Arthur thinks he won because he destroyed a second-rate puppet like Julian Vance. But he doesn't know that the Vances were merely paying protection fees to us. By destroying their empire, Arthur just cost our syndicate four billion dollars in laundered assets.”

Viktor nodded slowly. “So… what are your orders?”
“Let him celebrate for a few days. Let him think his family is safe,” The Director exhaled a thick cloud of blue smoke. “Then, we strike where it hurts the most. Find his wife, Martha. Find his precious daughter, Clara. Bring them both to the Blackwood Estate. Let’s see how long the legendary Phantom can keep playing the loving father when his entire world is burning to the ground.”
