Chapter 9 - The Final Stand at Blackwood Estate

The Blackwood Estate—a sprawling, gothic fortress nestled deep within the dense, foggy pine forests north of the city—stood like a monument to absolute dread.

Inside the cavernous stone-walled main hall, Martha and Clara were tied securely to heavy wooden chairs, guarded by four heavily armed mercenaries wearing tactical gear. Across the room, sitting comfortably in an antique leather armchair by a crackling fireplace, was The Director, swirling a glass of aged cognac.

The heavy iron doors at the end of the hall groaned open.

Arthur strode into the room alone, his clothes stained with soot and blood from the bakery explosion, his eyes burning with an incandescent, terrifying rage. He tossed a heavy combat knife onto the stone floor at his feet.

“I’m here,” Arthur said, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. “Let my wife and daughter go. This is between you and me.”

The Director took a slow sip of his cognac, standing up and buttoning his jacket. “Ah, the legendary Phantom. Walking right into the lion’s den, completely unarmed. I must admit, Arthur, I admire your paternal devotion. But did you really think you could dismantle our global network and simply walk away to bake bread?”

“You want my life? Come and take it,” Arthur stepped forward, his muscles coiled like springs.

“Oh, we’ll take it,” The Director smiled coldly, nodding to Viktor. “Kill the women first. Let him watch what happens when you cross the syndicate.”

Viktor raised his pistol, aiming squarely at Martha’s chest.

In that fraction of a second, Arthur moved with a speed that defied human limits—a speed born of decades of lethal combat training and sheer desperation. He dove across the stone floor, sliding beneath a heavy oak table just as Viktor fired. The bullet splintered the wood inches above his head.

Before Viktor could adjust his aim, Arthur kicked the edge of the heavy table upward with all his might, sending it crashing into Viktor’s knees. As Viktor staggered backward, Arthur vaulted over the table, closed the distance, and delivered a devastating palm strike to Viktor’s sternum, shattering his ribs and sending him crashing into the stone fireplace. Viktor went limp instantly.

The remaining four mercenaries opened fire, riddling the hall with automatic gunfire. Arthur rolled behind a stone pillar, dodging the storm of lead. Moving with ruthless efficiency, he picked up the combat knife he had dropped earlier, hurled it with pinpoint accuracy into the shoulder of the nearest guard, and closed in on the second, disarming him with a lightning-fast wrist lock before slamming him headfirst into the stone wall.

Within sixty seconds, all four mercenaries were neutralized.

The Director, realizing he was completely exposed, frantically reached for his own holster. But before his fingers could touch the gun, Arthur’s cold steel grip clamped around his wrist, twisting it upward with agonizing force until the pistol dropped to the floor. Arthur slammed The Director against the stone pillar, his forearm pressed hard against the man’s throat.

“It’s over,” Arthur whispered, his eyes piercing through him.

Sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second. Red and blue lights began flashing through the stained-glass windows of the estate.

“You… you think the police will save you?” The Director choked out, gasping for air. “The syndicate is everywhere… we are eternal…”

“I didn't call the local police,” Arthur said with a grim, satisfying smile, pressing a small satellite transponder into The Director’s jacket pocket. “I sent the complete, encrypted server logs of your entire global syndicate directly to Interpol, the FBI, and every international intelligence agency on the planet. By the time the sun sets today, your empire won't just be dismantled—it will be erased.”

Arthur released his grip, letting The Director collapse gasping to the floor.
