Chapter 12: The Blackmail

While Julian watched his legacy crumble on live television, Elena paid a personal visit to the one place Victoria felt truly safe: the Golden Pines Country Club. It was a fortress of extreme wealth, guarded by private security and high iron gates.
Elena didn't sneak in. She arrived in her black town car, handing the bewildered valet the keys before walking straight into the private dining room overlooking the golf course. Victoria was sitting alone at a corner table, a half-empty glass of gin in front of her, watching the news on a muted television with a look of absolute horror.
Elena pulled out a chair and sat across from her mother-in-law.
"Guards!" Victoria shrieked, instantly leaping to her feet. "Someone get security!"
"They won't come, Victoria," Elena said calmly, not breaking eye contact. "The security firm guarding this club is a subsidiary of a holding company based in Zurich. A company I purchased yesterday."
Victoria froze, the blood draining from her face. She sank back into her chair, her hands shaking so violently she had to grip the edge of the table to steady herself.
Elena slid a single, crisp document across the table. It was a transfer of deed for the family estate, along with an irrevocable power of attorney over Victoria's remaining personal trusts.
"Sign it," Elena commanded.
"You're taking my home?" Victoria whispered, tears of rage and humiliation welling in her eyes. "You've taken the company. You've ruined my son. What more do you want?"
May you like
"I want you to leave this table with nothing but the clothes on your back," Elena replied, leaning forward, the ghost of her father standing tall behind her eyes. "If you sign this, I will let you live long enough to watch your son go to prison for the shell companies you put in his name. If you don't sign it, my associate will find you in the parking lot."
Victoria looked at the document, a sob escaping her throat. With a trembling hand, she picked up a pen and signed away the last of her kingdom.
