Chapter 7 - The Eviction Gambit

Thinking they could still force my submission, my father took another desperate measure. He went to the tiny off-campus apartment I had rented during my senior year and attempted to kick the door in, claiming he was the lease guarantor and demanding to seize my belongings.
However, I had anticipated this move weeks ago.

Inside was a signed letter from my landlord confirming that I was the sole legal tenant, along with a copy of a police report for attempted breaking and entering.

Hidden in the corner of the ceiling was a small security camera I had installed the day before. From my phone at Mr. Vance's office, I watched my father tear the envelope to pieces in a fit of helpless rage while the locksmith quickly backed out of the apartment, realizing he had been tricked into breaking the law.
Ten minutes later, patrol cars arrived at the building. My father was detained in the driveway for criminal trespass and destruction of property.
