During renovation of an old Collins family storage unit, Mave found a cassette.
Peter Collins.
Her father.
She listened with Vincent.
Peter spoke about Isabella Costa.
About helping her collect evidence.
About fearing Enzo.
Then he said:
“If Mave ever hears this, sweetheart, I’m sorry.”
Mave cried instantly.
“I wanted to build you a world where powerful men couldn’t decide whether you were safe.”
She covered her mouth.
“I may fail.”
Vincent took her hand.
“But if I do, never spend your life being afraid of men with expensive suits and important names.”
Mave laughed through tears.
Her father would have appreciated the irony.
She had spent three years working for exactly such a man.
