Chapter 12 - The Wedding Without the Costa Name

Mave surprised Vincent one month before the ceremony.

“I’m keeping Collins.”

He blinked.

“Okay.”

She waited.

“That’s it?”

“What did you expect?”

“An argument.”

“I want you to have my name only if you want it.”

She smiled.

“I don’t.”

“Then Collins.”

“What about children?”

Vincent nearly choked on his coffee.

Mave laughed.

“Relax.”

“You cannot introduce hypothetical children during breakfast.”

“Why?”

“Because I need preparation.”

The feared former mafia boss needed preparation.

Mave loved that.

They married in a small ceremony overlooking the Hudson.

Leo stood beside Vincent.

Mave’s employees attended.

So did surviving members of Isabella’s family.

No politicians needing favors.

No criminal bosses.

No hidden guns beneath tuxedos.

When the officiant asked Mave whether she took Vincent as her husband, she looked at him.

Years earlier:

Take my arm.

An order.

Now:

Do you choose him?

A question.

May you like

“Yes.”

That difference contained their entire story.
