Chapter 13 - Leo Finally Explained the Tether
At the reception, Leo found Mave alone near the balcony.
“You remember the Plaza?”
“Unfortunately.”
“I told you he checked you every ten seconds.”
Mave smiled.
“The tether.”
“Yep.”
“Were you exaggerating?”
“No.”
She looked toward Vincent.
He was talking to guests.
Then his eyes found her.
Immediately.
Leo laughed.
“Still does it.”
Mave smiled.
“Maybe every fifteen seconds now.”
“Marriage has relaxed him.”
“Clearly.”
Leo became serious.
“I’ve known Vincent since we were kids.”
Mave waited.
“Before you, he never looked for anyone in a room.”
Her eyes softened.
“He looked for exits. Threats. Guns. Cops.”
Leo nodded toward Vincent.
“Then you showed up.”
Mave looked at her husband.
Vincent found her again.
This time she raised her glass.
He smiled.
The tether remained.
