Chapter 14 - The Final Toast

One year later.

The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York City was packed with the most powerful elite, billionaires, international diplomats, and corporate titans from across the globe. But tonight, there were no forced smiles, no toxic family dynamics, and no cruel jokes whispered behind anyone's back.

Tonight was the inaugural gala for the Reyes-Sterling Foundation—a multi-billion-dollar global philanthropic initiative dedicated to supporting victims of corporate fraud, domestic emotional abuse, and women rising out of toxic, controlling environments to build their own independent empires.

I stood at the center of the grand stage, wearing a breathtaking, custom-designed midnight-blue gown encrusted with subtle silver crystals that caught the chandelier light with every movement. My hair was swept back into an elegant, soft chignon, and my lips carried that signature, unapologetic coat of blood-red lipstick.

Four hundred people stood in absolute, reverent silence, watching me with a mixture of awe and deep respect.

"One year ago today," my voice rang out across the massive, acoustically perfect ballroom, carried by the speakers without a single tremor of doubt or hesitation, "I stood in a room much like this one. I was told I was nothing. I was told that without a man, without a family approval, without a gilded cage to hide inside, a woman is entirely invisible."

I paused, letting my gaze sweep slowly across the sea of faces before resting on Daniel, who stood near the edge of the stage with his arms crossed, a look of profound, unshakeable pride burning in his eyes.

"They were right about one thing," I continued, a slow, radiant smile curving my lips. "The old me was invisible. But she didn't die because she was weak. She died because she finally realized that the cage was made of paper, and the people holding the locks were cowards."

A soft, rippling wave of applause began to build through the room—not the mocking, cruel applause of my sister's wedding, but a thunderous, genuine roar of absolute adoration and solidarity.

"To everyone who has ever been told they couldn't survive on their own," I raised my crystal flute of champagne toward the crowd, letting the bubbles catch the golden light. "To the ones who built their empires from the ashes of the cages built for them. Here is to standing alone, standing tall, and burning the illusion to the ground."

"To Reyes!" voices rang out across the ballroom in a unified, deafening chorus.
