Chapter 25 - The Eternal Horizon

One year to the day after my father pushed me into that freezing terrace fountain, I stood on the private stone terrace of our estate in the Hamptons, watching the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean.
The air was crisp, carrying the sharp, invigorating scent of salt and autumn leaves. I wore a simple, elegant ivory cashmere sweater and dark trousers, my hair falling in soft waves around my shoulders. On my finger, the heavy platinum and diamond ring caught the morning sun, casting brilliant prisms of light across the stone pavers.
My phone rested on the iron table nearby. It remained dead silent. No frantic calls from Buffalo. No echoes of a past that had tried to drown me.
Daniel stepped out onto the terrace, holding two steaming mugs of black coffee. He handed one to me, stepping up beside me to look out at the endless horizon where the ocean met the sky in a seamless line of brilliant gold and sapphire.
"Happy anniversary, Mrs. Reyes," Daniel whispered, touching his mug to mine with a soft, resonant clink.

I took a sip of the coffee, letting a slow, radiant smile touch my lips—the smile of a woman who no longer had anything to prove, anything to fear, and anything to lose.
"Happy anniversary, Mr. Reyes," I replied, leaning my head against his shoulder as the morning sun broke fully over the water, flooding the world with light. "Let's see what we build today."
