Chapter 15 - The New Horizon

Later that night, long after the gala had ended and the last of the international dignitaries had departed, Daniel and I stood alone on the private balcony of our penthouse overlooking the sprawling, glittering expanse of the New York City skyline.
The city never truly slept, its endless rivers of taillights and towering skyscrapers forming a living, breathing testament to ambition, survival, and reinvention.
I rested my hands on the cool stone railing, letting the cool night air brush against my face. My phone sat untouched on the table inside—no desperate voicemails, no pathetic pleas from Buffalo, no echoes of a past that had tried so desperately to bury me.
Daniel walked up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me back against his chest. He rested his chin on my shoulder, breathing in the scent of my perfume.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Reyes?" he whispered, his voice a warm, grounding anchor in the quiet night.
I turned my head slightly, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek before looking out at the horizon where the first faint streaks of dawn were beginning to paint the eastern sky in soft shades of rose and pearl.
"I was just thinking," I murmured, a serene, unbreakable smile touching my lips. "We finally won."

Daniel chuckled, tightening his arms around me and kissing the top of my head. "We didn't just win, my love. We wrote an entirely new world."
I closed my eyes for a brief moment, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat against my back, before opening them again to watch the sun rise over the city we owned. The past was gone. The ghosts were silenced. And for the first time in my life, the horizon stretched out before me—endless, beautiful, and entirely mine.
