Chapter 8 - The Queen Takes the Board

Six months after Leo’s birth, the glass-and-steel skyscraper of Vance Enterprises in downtown Dallas felt the tremor before the earthquake hit.

Julian Sterling had officially filed a multi-billion-dollar federal lawsuit challenging the validity of the Leo Vance Family Trust.

Along with the lawsuit came an emergency motion to freeze all Vance Enterprises operational accounts, claiming Evelyn Vance was "mentally unfit" to oversee corporate assets due to severe postpartum psychosis—supported by a sworn, notarized affidavit from Adrian Cross inside prison.

Mainstream media outlets pounced on the news:

“Vance Empire in Crisis: Rival Firm Files to Freeze $3 Billion Trust.”

“Is Evelyn Vance Mentally Unstable? Leaked Documents Raise Questions.”

Inside the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor, Arthur Vance sat at the head of the table.

His legal team was frantically shouting across the table, panicking over the sudden drop in stock prices.

"The judge assigned to this motion is Judge Harold Vance—no relation, but heavily funded by Sterling Capital!" Marcus Vance, the chief strategist, warned gravely. "If he grants the injunction tomorrow morning, our operations freeze. We won't even be able to pay payroll!"

The boardroom doors swung open with a smooth, decisive click.

Every attorney stopped talking.

Evelyn walked in.

She wasn't wearing maternity clothes or hospital gowns anymore.

She wore a sharp, tailored ivory Alexander McQueen pantsuit. Her dark hair was styled into a sleek high bun, and her posture exuded pure, calm authority.

Walking right beside her was her six-month-old son, held securely in a custom carrier by a professional nanny, flanked by two bodyguards.

"Quiet down," Evelyn said softly.

Her voice wasn't loud, but the entire room fell dead silent.

Arthur looked up, a proud smirk touching his lips as he leaned back in his leather chair. "Gentlemen, the CEO has arrived."

Evelyn walked straight to the head of the table, placing a dark red leather folder onto the glass surface.

"Marcus," she said, looking directly at the chief legal strategist. "You're playing defense. That's why Julian Sterling is beating you."

"Evelyn... Mrs. Cross—pardon me, Ms. Vance," Marcus stammered. "Sterling bought off the judge! Adrian’s affidavit, combined with fake medical reports leaked from Sloane Mercer’s old contacts, creates enough probable cause for a temporary freeze!"

"Then we don't argue about my mental state," Evelyn replied, pulling out a slim silver pen. "We argue about Julian Sterling's solvency."

She opened the red folder.

"While Julian was busy buying off Judge Harold, I spent the last three months acquiring sixty percent of Sterling Capital's short-term commercial paper through offshore subsidiaries in Singapore."

The attorneys in the room gasped.

Arthur’s eyes lit up with fierce delight. "You cornered his debt?"

"Not just his debt," Evelyn smiled, a cold, brilliant expression. "Julian used his own firm's stock as collateral to fund his bribe to Judge Harold and to finance Adrian’s legal representation. If Sterling Capital’s stock dips by even seven percent before 9:00 AM tomorrow... Julian faces an automatic liquidating margin call."

She turned to her father.

"Dad, prepare twenty million dollars in short orders against Sterling Capital at market open."

Marcus looked at Evelyn as if seeing a ghost. "Ms. Vance... you aren't just defending the trust. You're trying to bankrupt Sterling Global Capital in a single morning!"

May you like

Evelyn tapped her fingers on the mahogany table, her eyes razor-sharp.

"He tried to take my son's future," she said softly. "I'm going to take his empire."
