Chapter 13 - The Phantom Heir

"A son?" Liam’s laughter was cold, cutting through Victoria’s smug demeanor. "Brendan’s medical records were thoroughly subpoenaed during our fraud trial. He had an emergency vasectomy in his twenties due to testicular cancer complications. The medical board verified it under oath."

Victoria didn't flinch. She simply adjusted the diamond cuff on her sleeve. "A biological son through artificial insemination using preserved genetic material from Charles Morrison Senior himself. My son isn't Brendan’s child. He is Brendan’s brother—the direct, legitimate son of the empire's founder, born via surrogate in Switzerland nine years ago."

Arthur gasped. "The Swiss trust... Charles Senior created a testamentary embryo clause before he died."

"Clever old man, isn't he?" Victoria purred. "He knew Diane was a narcissistic parasite who would run the family name into the ground. He created a backdoor clause: if the direct Morrison line ever faced bankruptcy or corporate seizure by an outsider, any legitimate post-humous child could legally revoke all asset transfers made within the previous ten years."

She stepped closer, leaning over my desk until she was inches from my face.

"That means your foundation, your acquisition of the Morrison maritime holdings, even this very mansion bought with restructured capital... it all legally belongs to a nine-year-old boy named Julian Morrison. And I am his sole legal guardian."

I didn't blink. I didn't lean back.

I looked into her icy eyes and saw the exact same stench of entitlement that Diane had carried the night she threw cold water in my face. They thought paper, lineage, and bloodlines could buy human dignity.

"You think you're the first predator to come after what I built?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper, vibrating with sheer authority. "You stayed silent for eight years. You let me endure Diane’s abuse. You let me starve in that penthouse while Brendan gambled away millions. You waited until I cleaned up the toxic debt, restructured the company, and turned it into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise. And now you come back to claim the harvest."

Victoria’s smirk faded slightly at my lack of fear. "The law doesn't care about your suffering, little girl. It cares about contracts. See you in court on Friday."

She turned on her heels and strutted out of the room, her designer stilettos clicking sharply against the hardwood floor.

As the heavy front doors slammed shut, Liam turned to me, his face tight with concern. "Honey, you need to sit down. Your blood pressure—"

"I'm fine," I cut him off, picking up the black checkbook Victoria had left on my desk. "Arthur, call our forensic accounting team in Zurich. And call the Warden at Danbury Federal Correctional Institution."

Liam stared at me. "The federal prison? Why are you calling Danbury?"

May you like

I opened the checkbook. Printed on the first check was an account number linked to a regional bank in upstate New York—not Switzerland.

"Because Diane Morrison didn't spend thirty years manipulating her family to let another woman steal her father's empire," I said. "Diane knows who Julian really is."
