Chapter 9 - THE SENTENCING IN MALAGA

On October 14th, Courtroom 3B of the Provincial Audiencia of Malaga was packed to maximum capacity with journalists, civic leaders, and legal observers.

Sitting at the defense table in dark prison uniforms, their hands shackled to their waists, were Beatriz Moreno and Javier de la Vega.

Beatriz had lost twenty pounds. Her high-society arrogance had completely disintegrated, replaced by a sunken, hollow face lined with bitter, terrifying defeat. Beside her sat Javier, staring at the wooden table in silent, broken despair.

Presiding Judge Patricia Navarro adjusted her glasses on the elevated bench, speaking directly into the microphone.

"In the matter of the Kingdom of Spain versus Beatriz Moreno and Javier de la Vega," Judge Navarro announced, her voice ringing through the silent room like a bronze bell. "The defendants have been found guilty on all counts: Aggravated Domestic Child Abuse, Felony Fiduciary Embezzlement, Corporate Espionage, and Criminal Conspiracy."

Judge Navarro looked down from the bench, her cold, piercing gaze locking onto Beatriz.

"In my thirty-two years on this bench," the judge said, every word hitting the courtroom like an iron hammer, "I have rarely witnessed an act of domestic and maternal cruelty so calculating, so cold-blooded, and so thoroughly devoid of basic human conscience. You took an innocent, grieving eight-year-old child and subjected her to systematic psychological torture and physical labor to line your pockets with stolen wealth."

Judge Navarro picked up her heavy wooden gavel.

"Beatriz Moreno is hereby sentenced to Eighteen Years at the Alcala de Guadaira Women's Penitentiary, without the possibility of early parole. Javier de la Vega is sentenced to Twenty-Two Years at Alhaurín de la Torre. All personal assets belonging to both defendants are permanently forfeited to the court-ordered restitution trust."

BANG!

The sound of the gavel echoed through the courtroom like an artillery shot.

Beatriz buried her face in her shackled hands, letting out a piercing, hysterical wail of total ruin, while Javier was hauled to his feet by two armed National Police officers, dragging his chains across the floor as they were escorted through the heavy steel side doors into the holding cells below.

In the front row of the gallery, I stood up calmly, smoothed down my blazer, and walked out through the grand marble double doors into the bright Andalusian sunshine, leaving the parasites behind in the dark forever.
