The intruder wore scrubs.
Badge.
Mask.
Hospital shoes.
She reached Ethan’s floor before security stopped her.
Name:
Rachel Dunn.
Licensed nurse.
Former employee of Montigue Child Wellness.
In her bag:
A syringe.
A forged transfer order.
A child-sized sedative dose.
And Ethan’s passport photograph.
Lily stared.
“They were going to take him from the hospital.”
Victor’s hands tightened.
Rachel refused to talk.
Then Detective Brooks showed her Serena’s ledger.
Her name.
Payments.
Rachel’s face changed.
She asked for a lawyer.
Good.
Then child services assigned temporary protective supervision.
Ethan could not return to the mansion yet.
Not with the network unresolved.
Victor hated it.
He accepted it.
That mattered.
Lily stayed at the hospital with Ethan under official approval.
Victor sat in the hall.
Not inside.
Because Dana Brooks required supervised access while the investigation assessed the household.
A mafia boss waiting for permission to see his son.
He did not threaten anyone.
Lily noticed.
Then Isabella arrived.
The hospital arranged a private family reunion.
Victor waited at one end of the room.
Isabella entered at the other.
They stared.
Years of grief.
Lies.
Fear.
No music.
No dramatic embrace.
Ethan saw her.
He did not recognize her.
That broke everyone.
Isabella knelt.
“Hi, sweetheart.”
Ethan clung to Lily.
Isabella smiled through tears.
“That’s okay.”
She did not force him.
Victor watched.
Then Isabella looked at him.
“You believed I left.”
“Yes.”
“You believed I died.”
“Yes.”
“Did you ever look beyond Serena’s evidence?”
Victor looked down.
“No.”
She nodded.
That hurt more than shouting.
Then he said:
“I’m sorry.”
Isabella answered:
“I don’t know what that means yet.”
Fair.
Then she testified.
Serena lured her onto the boat the night of the explosion.
Claimed Victor was planning a surprise.
A sedative in champagne.
Isabella woke in a clinic.
Serena said Victor wanted her declared unstable.
When Isabella resisted, Dr. Sloane falsified records.
Then a staged boat explosion.
Dental samples taken from Isabella’s old medical files.
A body from an unidentified case used for remains.
Complicated.
Possible with money and corrupt people.
Then Isabella discovered she was pregnant at the clinic.
Everyone froze.
Victor looked at Ethan.
Timeline.
Ethan was born after her disappearance.
Serena told Isabella the baby died.
Then secretly took him.
Placed him with Victor months later.
How?
Serena arrived with a story.
A surrogate had carried Victor and Isabella’s embryo before the accident.
Victor had signed fertility documents months earlier.
True.
He believed Ethan was born from that process.
In reality, Isabella gave birth in confinement.
Serena took him.
Victor covered his face.
The entire first year of Ethan’s life had been built on a stolen mother.
Then Isabella said:
“Serena wanted me alive because I had to sign trust papers.”
“What papers?”
A guardianship waiver.
She refused.
That delayed the wedding.
Serena needed Victor’s marriage and Isabella’s legal death to override it.
Then Detective Brooks entered.
Anthony Blackwood had begun cooperating.
He claimed Serena was planning something during the charity gala scheduled in three days.
The gala had not been canceled.
Victor had planned to cancel it.
Anthony said:
“Don’t.”
Why?
Serena intended to appear.
She believed the ledger would be exchanged there.
A trap.
Then Isabella looked at Lily.
“She’ll come for you.”
Lily’s stomach tightened.
“Why me?”
“Because your testimony makes Ethan’s injury real.”
Then:
“And because Ethan trusts you more than anyone she can control.”
