Chapter 15 - THE FORECLOSURE NOTICE

Two weeks after Julian’s arrest, the final remnants of the Vance family’s ill-gotten prestige were dismantled in Savannah.
Outside Julian’s sprawling four-story historic mansion on Gaston Street, three county sheriff cruisers and two industrial moving trucks lined the cobblestone street.
A crowd of local business associates and neighbors watched in stunned silence as uniformed deputies posted the bright yellow notice on the massive oak doors:
UNITED STATES MARSHALS SERVICE — WRIT OF CIVIL ASSET FORFEITURE.
Julian’s luxury sports cars, imported European furniture, and antique wine collections were tagged with digital auction barcodes.
Julian’s private corporate offices on the riverfront were shuttered, their commercial licenses revoked by the state of Georgia.
Deputy Sheriff Thomas Hayes stood on the sidewalk, watching the federal moving crew load the final crates into the vans.
"Everything they built was founded on a child's tears," Deputy Hayes said to the gathered reporters. "And the law has wiped the slate completely clean."
The house that had been purchased with stolen blood money was slated for public auction, with every single dollar earmarked for The Georgia Foster Children's Emergency Trauma Network.
