Chapter 17 - THE TRUTH IN THE LEDGER

Following the court victory, Marcus Brody and our medical team hosted a celebratory lunch at the historic Georgian Club overlooking the city skyline.
Dr. Jonathan Mercer, Chief of Pediatric Trauma at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, sat beside Lucas, reviewing Leo’s final comprehensive orthopedic and pulmonary report.
"The bone density remodeling along Leo’s left wrist and ankle is one hundred percent complete, Lucas," Dr. Mercer smiled warmly, showing the high-resolution digital X-rays. "There are no micro-fractures remaining. His lung capacity is in the ninety-eighth percentile for his age, and his psychological trauma markers have dropped to zero."
Dr. Mercer took off his glasses, looking at Lucas and me with profound, reverent emotion.
"In thirty years of pediatric trauma medicine, I have never seen a child heal so rapidly," Dr. Mercer said. "That kind of recovery doesn't come from medicine alone. It comes from knowing, with every beat of his heart, that he is completely, unconditionally loved."
Lucas took a slow, deep breath, his hand finding mine under the linen tablecloth.

"Thank you, Jonathan," Lucas said softly. "You saved my boy when he needed a doctor. Now it’s my turn to protect him as a father."
"You already did, Lucas," Dr. Mercer replied with a heartfelt nod. "You gave him his life back."
