Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Purge

At 9:00 AM on Monday morning, the corporate executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Sterling Logistics Tower in downtown Atlanta was an arena of impending slaughter.
Arthur Vance—Rebecca’s husband, a slick, silver-haired corporate raider in a bespoke three-thousand-dollar suit—sat at the head of the forty-foot polished granite conference table.
Around the table sat eight senior managing directors, institutional investment partners from Wall Street, and four elite defense litigators.
"Gentlemen," Arthur Vance announced smoothly, adjusting his gold cufflinks with manufactured arrogance. "The rumors circulating in the press regarding my wife Rebecca are an exaggerated domestic dispute between estranged siblings. The sixty-million-dollar commercial merger with European Freight Logistics remains completely secure—"
BANG.
The heavy double frosted-glass doors of the boardroom were thrown open with an explosive force that rattled the acoustic ceiling panels.
Lucas Sterling walked into the room.
He did not look like a broken patient from a sanitarium. He wore an immaculate, bespoke charcoal three-piece suit from Savile Row, his posture towering at six-foot-two, his silver-streaked hair styled neatly, radiating the cold, unyielding sovereignty of a king returning to reclaim his throne.
Flanking him were Emily Sterling, Chief Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Jenkins, and four federal forensic auditors carrying heavy titanium evidence cases.
The entire boardroom fell into a dead, terrified silence.
The eight institutional directors sprang to their feet, staring in absolute, jaw-dropping shock at the man they had declared legally deceased six years ago.
Arthur Vance’s coffee cup slipped from his fingers, shattering against the granite table, sending hot liquid spilling across his quarterly prospectuses.
"Lucas?!" Arthur gasped, his face turning an ash-gray color beneath his spray tan. "What... what kind of ghost story is this?!"
"I’m not a ghost, Arthur," Lucas stated, his voice cutting through the room like a diamond blade. "I am the majority shareholder of this corporation."
Assistant US Attorney Sarah Jenkins stepped forward, placing a laminated document bearing the bold gold seal of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia onto the center of the table.
"As of eight o'clock this morning," Prosecutor Jenkins declared with razor-sharp authority, "the federal court executed an emergency order of criminal forfeiture and receivership over all shares held by Arthur Vance and Rebecca Sterling."
Lead Auditor Marcus Cole stepped forward, plugging a gold-plated flash drive into the boardroom’s master presentation hub.
The massive, ninety-eight-inch digital presentation screens along the wall flickered to life.
The financial logs played across the monitors in crystalline clarity: sixty-four million dollars in fraudulent wire transfers, the forged probate documents, and unredacted video confessions from Dr. Harold Mercer detailing Arthur Vance’s monthly bribery payments.
"The board of directors of Sterling Logistics is officially reconstituted," Lucas declared, looking across the room at the stunned executives. "All commercial assets, dry docks, and international fleets are returned unconditionally into The Leo Sterling Sovereign Legacy Trust."

Lucas turned his piercing gaze onto Arthur Vance.
"Security," Lucas commanded softly. "Escort this felon to the federal transport vans."
