Chapter 9 - The Eviction Notice

Forty-eight hours after the deposition debacle, the legal system moved with terrifying speed.
Based on the perjury and evidence of secondary fraud, the court granted an immediate emergency forfeiture order against the Vance family properties to satisfy outstanding victim restitution for Audrey.
On a cold Tuesday morning, three county sheriff deputies arrived at Eleanor’s colonial estate, accompanied by a court-appointed receiver and a moving crew.
Eleanor was standing in her bathrobe, holding a cup of instant coffee, when the lead deputy knocked on the door.
"Eleanor Vance?" the deputy asked. "I have a writ of execution from the State District Court. You are required to vacate these premises immediately."
"Vacate?!" Eleanor shrieked, dropping her mug. It shattered on the porch tiles. "This is my home! You can't put me out! My family has owned property in this county for forty years!"
"The property has been seized to cover fraudulent liabilities incurred by your son, for which you acted as guarantor," the receiver explained coldly, handing her a thick stack of eviction papers. "You have thirty minutes to collect your essential personal items, medication, and clothing. Everything else inside the house is now under court custody."
"No! No! Help! Police!" Eleanor screamed hysterically, trying to push past the deputy to shut the door.
The deputy firmly held her back. "Ma'am, do not resist, or you will be placed under arrest for obstruction."
Neighbors stepped out onto their manicured lawns, pulling out their smartphones to record the spectacle as the proud, arrogant Eleanor Vance was escorted down her own driveway in a faded bathrobe and slippers, sobbing uncontrollably.

Her antique furniture, her art collection, and her designer clothes were loaded into yellow moving trucks right before her eyes.
With no money, no friends willing to take her calls, and no home left, Eleanor was forced to board a city transit bus carrying a single worn suitcase—ending up at a suburban women’s shelter, ruined and utterly forgotten.
